The United States military is facing shortages in some ammunition stocks following months of operations against Iran, according to a report by the US Department of Defence鈥檚 Office of Inspector General submitted to Congress.

The report estimated that Operation Epic Fury cost about $33.4 billion between February 28 and June 30, including approximately $22.3 billion in expended munitions. It said the scale of weapons use had created strategic inventory shortfalls and exposed limitations in the defence industrial base鈥檚 ability to rapidly replenish stocks.

The Pentagon is reportedly working to shorten procurement and production timelines while building reserves of critical materials and selected weapons, although expanding manufacturing capacity could take considerable time.
