The United States Mission in Saudi Arabia has warned travellers to exercise extreme caution at major airports after fresh attacks targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. The warning was issued in a security alert dated Sunday, October 11, amid escalating attacks on Saudi aviation facilities.

The mission advised US citizens and other travellers to prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other disruptions, and to confirm departure schedules directly with airlines and airports before travelling. US government employees now require special authorisation to use airports in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, while travel within 20 miles of the Yemen border remains prohibited for them because of security risks.

The warning follows a series of deadly attacks on King Khalid International Airport over the weekend. At least 12 people were killed and more than 300 injured in Saturday’s attack, while another strike on Sunday killed one person and injured 11 others.

The renewed violence has caused widespread flight cancellations and heightened concerns over aviation safety as tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement intensify.
