Shuaibu arrived at about 11am on Saturday, October 17, and visited the headquarters of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, at Maimalari Cantonment.
His arrival came 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu directed security chiefs to rescue all abducted Nigerians and ensure that terrorist and bandit camps no longer operate anywhere in the country.
The President’s directive was disclosed by Defence Minister Christopher Musa following a security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
Musa said security agencies had been instructed to intensify efforts to locate and rescue people held captive. Tinubu also directed security chiefs to help ensure a safe environment for the forthcoming elections.
Shuaibu is expected to meet with theatre, field and unit commanders during his visit to Borno, where military operations against insurgent groups remain a major security priority.
However, it has not been officially established whether the Army chief’s visit is directly connected to the President’s latest directive.
The visit comes as the military leadership faces renewed expectations to strengthen operations, protect communities and support efforts to secure the release of abducted citizens.
