Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ home in Cheshire, England, was burgled on Wednesday night while the midfielder was in Italy for his club’s Champions League match against Como. Police have opened an investigation into the incident, which occurred while Fernandes and his family were away from the property.

Cheshire Police said officers responded after receiving a report of suspicious activity from a resident who saw three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had left, but police discovered that the house had been broken into and several items were missing.

Fernandes’ family were not at home during the burglary, and reports indicate that the intruders spent less than five minutes inside the property before fleeing. Police said the investigation remains at an early stage and officers are working to identify and trace those responsible.

Manchester United are supporting Fernandes following the incident. The 32-year-old captained the club during Wednesday’s Champions League match in Italy, where United suffered a 4-1 defeat to Como before returning to England.
