Justice Hamza Mu’azu, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, issued the order following a suit filed by Joseph Waya, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
The court directed the governor to make available records covering federal allocations, internally generated revenue, loans, grants and government contracts. The disclosure also includes foreign donations, personnel costs and pension payments.
Waya approached the court after alleging that the state government failed to provide comprehensive financial information he requested under the Freedom of Information Act in September 2025. The court upheld his right to access the records and ordered compliance.
The ruling comes amid renewed public debate over Benue’s finances following claims by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike that the state receives about ₦30 billion monthly from the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has also called on Alia’s administration to explain how public funds have been spent. The party has separately alleged that allocations to the state government and its 23 local government areas exceeded ₦1.3 trillion since Alia took office.
The disclosure order could provide greater clarity on the state’s revenue and expenditure. The figures and allegations surrounding the allocations should be assessed against the financial records once they are released.
