The campaign organisation of Delta State Nigeria Democratic Congress governorship candidate Chris Iyovwaye has called for greater transparency in the state’s Food Bank Initiative, demanding disclosure of its funding sources, beneficiary selection process and distribution records. The demand was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026, by the organisation’s Director-General, Dr Alfred Mulade.

The call followed the third edition of the food bank programme held in Asaba on Wednesday, where 2,500 women drawn from Delta State’s 25 local government areas received financial and food assistance. Each beneficiary reportedly received ₦50,000, bringing the cash component to ₦125 million, while food items distributed at the event were valued at more than ₦100 million.
Mulade said the campaign organisation supports interventions aimed at helping families facing economic hardship but insisted that the public should know where the funds came from, how beneficiaries were chosen and what was actually distributed. It also requested supporting records explaining how the value of the food items was determined.

The organisation argued that greater disclosure would strengthen public confidence and help ensure that social intervention programmes reach vulnerable residents fairly. It also questioned the long-term impact of one-off food and cash distributions, urging the state to combine immediate assistance with programmes capable of improving livelihoods and reducing poverty.

The food bank initiative, led by Delta State First Lady Tobore Oborevwori, was established to provide support to vulnerable women and families across the state. No response from the organisers to the NDC campaign organisation’s latest transparency demands was contained in the report at the time of publication.
