The Federal Government has received 180 Nigerian nationals who returned from Sebha, Libya, through an assisted voluntary return initiative coordinated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The returnees arrived at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State, at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday and shared through its official social media account on Wednesday, October 28.

According to the agency, the Nigerians arrived aboard an Air Buraq Airlines aircraft with registration number 5A-BAE.

The reception exercise was coordinated by NEMA's Lagos Operations Office in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons.

Providing details of the arrivals, NEMA disclosed that the group comprised 143 adults, 26 children and 11 infants.

Among the adults were 75 men and 68 women, while the children included 12 boys and 14 girls. The infants comprised three boys and eight girls.

Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service carried out biometric registration and documentation immediately after the passengers arrived.

The exercise was designed to verify the returnees' identities, maintain accurate migration records and facilitate their reintegration into Nigerian society.

NEMA explained that the returning citizens were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance, including meals, drinking water and medical screening.

Emergency medical personnel and ambulance services were also available to attend to individuals requiring additional healthcare.

Other assistance included luggage handling, transportation coordination, counselling and logistical support.
The agency further disclosed that reintegration assistance was provided to help the returnees travel back to their respective communities and begin rebuilding their lives.

The operation formed part of the Assisted Voluntary Return Programme implemented by the International Organisation for Migration in partnership with the Nigerian government.

NEMA said the reception involved cooperation among several government agencies and humanitarian partners to ensure that returning citizens were welcomed safely and treated with dignity.

The agency reaffirmed the importance of providing appropriate welfare assistance and support to Nigerian migrants returning from abroad.

The latest arrival highlights continuing cooperation between Nigerian authorities and international migration organisations in facilitating the voluntary return and reintegration of Nigerian nationals.
