The differing demands emerged during closing arguments in the trial of seven medical professionals over Maradona’s death at a private residence, where he was recovering after surgery for a brain clot. The defendants deny the charges.
Lawyer Fernando Burlando, representing Maradona’s daughters Dalma and Gianinna, urged the court to sentence six of the accused to up to 15 years in prison. He accused the medical team of showing what he described as “brutal indifference” towards the former Argentina captain.
Meanwhile, the lawyer representing Maradona’s three sisters sought sentences of up to 10 years for five defendants, identifying medical coordinator Nancy Forlini as a key figure deserving a severe punishment.
A separate lawyer representing Maradona’s youngest son, Diego Fernando, had earlier called for 16-year prison terms for personal physician Leopoldo Luque and Forlini.
Prosecutors have requested convictions for six of the seven defendants, with proposed prison sentences ranging from four to 12 years. Luque faces the highest request from the prosecution.
The closing arguments are expected to continue until the end of October. The court in San Isidro, near Buenos Aires, is expected to deliver its judgment at a later date.
