President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the heads of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service, keeping both officials in office until 2028.

Under the approval, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Kemi Nanna Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, will serve until June 30, 2028.

The Presidency said the extensions followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address succession gaps and give the governing boards of both agencies sufficient time to appoint successors.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the two service chiefs for reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to consolidate the progress.

Nwakuche was nominated to lead the Correctional Service in December 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in March 2025. Nandap was nominated to head the Immigration Service in February 2024 and confirmed by the Senate the following month.

The latest approval marks a further extension for Nandap, whose tenure had previously been extended to December 31, 2026.

The two agencies oversee correctional facilities and immigration and border-management responsibilities, respectively.
