The Osun State Government has unveiled plans for a statewide security and surveillance system that will deploy artificial intelligence-enabled cameras, drones, radar and other technologies to strengthen the protection of residents and critical infrastructure. Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, announced the initiative on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following talks with representatives of Chinese technology company Hefei Shengwen Information Technology Company Limited.

Under the proposed project, security activities across the state will be monitored from a central Command and Control Centre, with surveillance equipment gathering information and tracking incidents around the clock. The system is also expected to incorporate robotics and Internet of Things technology to improve intelligence gathering and support faster responses to security threats.

The planned network will cover schools, hospitals, banks, farms, mining locations, industries, commercial centres, motor parks and major transport routes. A Safe School component is also included, while residents are expected to have access to a mobile application linking them directly with the command centre for security alerts and reports.

Adeleke said the initiative would complement the Osun State Security Trust Fund and form part of the government’s wider effort to use technology to protect communities, businesses and border areas. The state had earlier announced plans for real-time CCTV surveillance under its Safe City programme and has also established a joint security task force in response to recent security concerns.

The latest announcement remains at the planning and implementation stage, with government officials and the technology company still finalising project details. No comprehensive deployment timetable, project cost or completion date had been publicly announced at the time of reporting.
