The request was conveyed in a letter read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary on Tuesday, October 13, as lawmakers resumed legislative activities after their annual recess.
According to the President, the Federal Executive Council approved the takeover of the airport, built by the Yobe State Government, at an extraordinary meeting on May 23, 2023. The decision included a commitment to reimburse the state through a promissory note arrangement.
Tinubu said the Bureau of Public Procurement reviewed the project and recommended a reimbursement of ₦100,509,017,255.
The proposed promissory note would be issued through the Debt Management Office, formalising the Federal Government’s financial obligation to the state following the airport’s takeover.
However, the reimbursement is not yet final, as the proposal requires consideration and approval by the National Assembly.
The President also transmitted other bills to the House, including proposed legislation on the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, alongside the National Research Development Fund Bill.
The airport reimbursement proposal now awaits legislative consideration as the House continues its work on government requests and proposed laws.
