The investment, equivalent to approximately $18 billion, was announced on October 20 at the German government’s Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin. It adds to more than €100 billion the company says it has invested in the country since 2010.
A major portion of the planned spending, €4.8 billion, will go towards expanding Amazon Web Services’ cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence capabilities in the Frankfurt region.
The company also plans to expand its logistics operations, with new projects expected to create more than 3,000 jobs. Other areas earmarked for investment include Amazon Leo, its satellite broadband network, and additional productions for its Prime Video streaming service.
Amazon further plans to open a second robotics and artificial intelligence research laboratory in Berlin, strengthening its research and development presence in Germany.
The announcement follows an earlier investment commitment of €10 billion made in 2024 to expand the company’s cloud infrastructure and logistics network.
The latest plan underscores Amazon’s push to meet growing demand for AI computing and digital services while strengthening its position in Europe’s largest economy. The company has not detailed the full allocation of the overall €16 billion-plus investment across all business areas.
