Olympique de Marseille’s official club store on La Canebière has been looted and badly damaged as nationwide protests in France descended into violence over the weekend. The Ligue 1 club confirmed the incident on Monday, October 19, saying the damage forced the shop to close temporarily.

The unrest erupted during demonstrations over rising living costs and deteriorating public services, with clashes, fires and looting reported in several French cities, including Paris, Marseille, Lille and Bordeaux. French authorities made thousands of arrests as police moved to contain some of the worst civil unrest seen in the country in years.

Marseille condemned the attack on its store and expressed support for sportswear company Puma, which operates the outlet. The club said supporters could continue using its other official stores in the city and would be informed when the La Canebière branch is able to reopen.

Authorities in Marseille also imposed restrictions on public gatherings following the violence as cleanup and security operations continued. Lille OSC’s official store was similarly vandalised during the unrest, highlighting the wider impact on businesses and public infrastructure across affected cities.

Despite the disruption, Marseille are preparing for their Europa League trip to face Sturm Graz on Thursday. The club currently sit ninth in Ligue 1 after seven matches.
