According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Abdullahi was arrested on September 28 after sharing the document on his Facebook page with the caption, “ATIKU IS COMING.”
The charges, filed at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, border on alleged cybercrime and defamation. Abdullahi was earlier arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court No. 10 in Kabala Doki, Kaduna, which ordered his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in the state.
Onanuga said Abdullahi admitted to investigators that he had shared the document and apologised. The presidential aide added that a date for the defendant’s formal arraignment at the Federal High Court had yet to be fixed.
The case has attracted criticism from human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who condemned the arrest and questioned the use of a security agency in a case involving an online post.
The allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings. The filing of charges does not establish guilt, and the defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court.
