The police said a group of youths suspected of belonging to the Sara-Suka gang stormed the Wayan Makafi and Unguwan Kur areas of Bauchi metropolis at about 9.15pm on October 11, causing panic among residents.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, officers attached to the D Division in Dutsen Tanshi, working with members of the Yan Committee, responded and dispersed the group.
A member of the community security group sustained injuries during the operation and was receiving medical attention in stable condition. One suspect was arrested at the scene, while efforts continued to apprehend others who fled.
In a separate incident, police arrested 25-year-old Abubakar Adamu Aliyu, popularly known as Zadous, over an alleged attempt to attack a Peace Corps member at Kofar Dumi.
Police said the suspect was allegedly armed with others who went to the victim’s residence. The command also alleged that he had previously faced court proceedings over thuggery and was released the previous week.
The suspects remain subject to investigation, and police said they would be charged in court as appropriate after investigations are concluded. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu urged parents, guardians and community leaders to discourage youths from violent activities.
