The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged motorists across Nigeria to avoid reckless driving and strictly obey traffic regulations during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Ali Biu, gave the warning as part of efforts to ensure a safe and hitch-free festive period for travellers and road users.

He stressed that the celebration period often witnesses increased vehicular movement, which raises the risk of road traffic crashes if safety precautions are ignored.

Biu warned drivers against excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, and other traffic violations that could endanger lives.

He also urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys, noting that mechanical faults contribute significantly to road accidents.

The FRSC boss called on transport operators and commercial drivers to prioritise passenger safety over profit, especially during peak travel periods.

He further advised passengers to take responsibility for their own safety by discouraging reckless driving and reporting erring drivers to the appropriate authorities.

The Corps Marshal reiterated that FRSC personnel have been deployed nationwide to monitor traffic, enforce compliance, and respond swiftly to emergencies during the festivities.

He emphasised that adherence to traffic rules is a shared responsibility and urged all road users to cooperate with enforcement officers to ensure a peaceful celebration.
