The Ondo State Police Command has debunked rumours circulating in parts of Akure and on social media alleging the presence of bandits within the state capital.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command described the reports as false and unfounded, assuring residents that there is no credible intelligence or reported incident indicating any invasion of bandits in Akure.
According to the statement, security assessments and intelligence-gathering operations conducted by the Command have not revealed any threat that would warrant panic or disruption of normal activities in the metropolis.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, urged parents, guardians, students and school authorities not to be alarmed by unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear and anxiety. He assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place across the state to safeguard lives and property.
The Police Command also warned against the deliberate spread of false information, noting that individuals found responsible for disseminating misinformation intended to incite panic or cause public disorder would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Residents were advised to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities through the nearest police station or established emergency channels.
