The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against a planned protest allegedly linked to a group identified as the “Congress of Cultists.”
The group is reportedly associated with the Neo-Black Movement, also known as Black Axe.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said intelligence available to the command indicated the alleged connection between the group and the planned protest.
The police described the group as faceless and warned that anyone attempting to use the planned gathering to cause violence, disrupt public peace, or engage in criminal activities would face appropriate action.
The command said security operatives would respond decisively to any activity capable of threatening lives, property, and public order in the state.
The police also advised individuals or groups with grievances to pursue lawful channels for resolving their disputes rather than resorting to violence, self-help, or reprisal attacks.
The warning comes amid an ongoing investigation into a recent killing in Osun State.
According to the command, the investigation has produced useful leads, while some suspects identified in connection with the incident are still at large. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
The command appealed to residents with relevant information about the killing to assist the investigation, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, also urged parents, community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to caution youths against participating in activities capable of destabilizing the state.
The police called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant while reporting suspicious activities and movements to the nearest police station or other security agency.
The command said it remains committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across Osun State.
