Reports reaching Glow FM indicate that the Benue State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps member, Ben Agir, who was allegedly mobbed to death by a vigilante group over a motorcycle he reportedly owned.

Agir was were confirmed dead last Sunday night at Major Settlement, near Buruku Local Government Secretariat, in Buruku Local Government Area of the state. He was accused of stealing a motorcycle before being attacked.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Buruku LGA, Raymond Aondoakura, disclosed the council had suspended all activities of the vigilante group in the area pending the outcome of investigations into the killing.

Speaking with journalists on Friday, the state command’s spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, mentioned the incident occurred between 11pm and midnight on Sunday.

“The deceased was accused by a group of hoodlums of stealing a motorcycle and was subsequently mobbed to death without any form of investigation,” Udeme remarked.

“But preliminary findings brought to light that the accusation was false, as documents relating to the motorcycle indicated that the deceased was its rightful owner,” she added.

Udeme disclosed that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime while a third remained at large.

“Two suspects, Terkimbi Abumswende and Joshua Adagim, were arrested in connection with the crime, but another suspect remains at large,” she disclosed.

She added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the making their escape suspect and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be carried out to ensure all those responsible were brought to justice.
