The Imo State Police Command says it has located the camp where prospective National Youth Service Corps members abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road are being held, but security operatives have delayed entering the area because of suspected improvised explosive devices. Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso said drones were used to identify the location after security teams tracked the abductors into the bush.

Bosso said security agencies are preparing to enter the area with bulldozers and armoured personnel carriers to rescue the victims safely. The incident occurred on Thursday when gunmen attacked two buses carrying prospective corps members travelling from Ibadan to orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom.

Reports indicate that 19 prospective corps members were taken into the bush, while police earlier announced the rescue of 10 victims. The latest operation is focused on locating and rescuing those still in captivity as security agencies continue their search.
