The Nigeria Police Force has directed formations across the country to strengthen security around schools, National Youth Service Corps orientation camps, places of worship and other vulnerable locations following intelligence pointing to possible coordinated terrorist attacks.

The security communication warned of increased mobilisation by suspected terrorist elements and alleged surveillance of potential targets by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province operatives and local collaborators. Commands were directed to intensify intelligence gathering, patrols, border security, access control and rapid-response arrangements.

The Defence Headquarters said it was monitoring the situation, while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it had strengthened intelligence operations around schools as the 2026/2027 academic session resumes.
